LOW-INTENSITY SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

Focused low-intensity shockwave therapy

In low-intensity shockwave therapy, the device delivers several thousand low-intensity treatments to the penis over a few weeks.  The Belmont Clinic uses a focused shockwave generator, which is considered the gold-standard for low-intensity shockwave therapy.

The treatment protocol is twice per week for a total of three weeks. The treatments are spaced two to three days apart.  Each session takes approximately 15 minutes and is completely painless.   Focused low-intensity shockwave therapy has been reported to induce new blood vessel growth and stimulate healthy blood vessel development in penile tissue, improve penile blood flow and blood vessel cell function, and convert PDE5 inhibitor non-responders into responders (make Viagara and/or Cialis effective when previously they did not work).  There are a number of randomized control trials demonstrating an improvement in hardness when patients are treated with low-intensity shockwave therapy.  The results generally last one year and the treatment needs to be repeated.  A higher number of shockwave sessions is linked to further benefit for men who suffer from erectile dysfunction.
